Remarkable find from Kangju-era southern Kazakhstan - the site of Kylyshzhar, near Kultobe. Bone handle plates for a composite bow, engraved with the scene of a hunt
One of the more interesting (for me) finds from recent years is the find of an almost complete costume from the Sasanian era from the Chehrabad Salt Mines in Northern Iran. The set consists of a cotton tunic, wool shorts, wool and cotton leggings, and leather boots
Among many others, one interesting case of cultural diffusion across late antique and early medieval Eurasia is the case of textiles, and particularly their decoration 🧵
Coats from the Hephthalite era (and earlier) tended to be shorter, extending above the knee, and did not always have a slit up the side of the skirt. They were also made with one lapel, whereas Sogdian coats from the mid 7th C onwards had two lapels (5)
Bronze aquamanile or rhyton in the shape of a ram (the horns are missing), 7th - 8th Century, 34.5 cm tall
The piece is now in the @state_hermitage @hermitage_eng, it was acquried in Dagestan.

This is a pair of #Sasanian #Persian gilt-silver boar heads with a spout (presumably there were 38-48 more in the entire set) with an inscription naming a certain Pērōz Gušnasp, presumably the owner
They’re described as rhyta, but I don’t think they are
