This one has always felt like the other half to the nocturne I posted the other day or vice versa. Same square format, drawn in the sketchbook around the same time, but different moods. I love the shapes and the way the red light is absorbed into the tree itself.
Moon-Bright Desert Night, 36” x 36”, will be @TheAutry Masters opening Feb 8.
I love that in contrast to air-conditioning, wifi, carpool lanes, and modern life, places like this that have barely changed over millennia still exist. Give me a lonely canyon to explore and it’ll be a good day.
Let’s continue with the orange theme - here’s a still life of persimmons in sunlight.

I’ve been working on getting paintings ready for the upcoming Gold Medal Exhibition, so in the meantime here’s an older piece from Topanga Canyon.
This painting encompasses two of my favorite things: the sound of the desert towards dusk and small color modulations.
“Amidst the Silence” (available)
‘A Moon of Unusual Brightness’ will be my signature piece for the upcoming Masters exhibition @TheAutry, accompanied by a poem I wrote for it.
Time to start thinking about those October #art #workshops. #pasadena https://t.co/plVNizywaz
