Nicolay Diulgheroff, the Bulgarian artist and prominent representative of interwar Italian Futurism died in Turin in 1982.
His painting Woman at a Window, 1927, is in our current exhibition where it creates a dialogue with Alexander Archipenko’s sculpture, Reclining.

In works like this one Archipenko constructed his figures by adjoining conical elements, employing collage and a variety of pigments (pastel, chalk) to better visualise the effect of the curved surfaces.

This powerful drawing relates to one of Boccioni’s lost Futurist sculptures, which explored the relationships between the concave and convex forms of a human face. Its model was the artist’s mother, Cecilia Forlani, who was photographed in front of this drawing in 1913.

Gerardo Dottori was born in 1884. Between late 1911 and early 1912 he met Giacomo Balla and joined the Futurist movement, becoming the dominant figure in Umbria’s avant-garde circles. He became one of the first Futurists to analyse the dynamism of the natural world.

Ottone Rosai was born in 1895.

In 1913 an exhibition of his work was visited by the Futurists; according to Rosai, “They invited me to join them and from that very day I became a militant Futurist.”
