Sidi Mubarak Bombay (center). For 20 years he was part of African exploration, working with Burton, Livingston, Speke and others. A former slave, Burton called Bombay "The gem of the party." In 1873, Bombay crossed the continent of Africa from the East coast to the West Coast.
