Got a lovely Wuzzles present from a friend from Aotearoa New Zealand last night. She warned me the reading level might be challenging, so I'm just looking at the pictures:

in 1816, young Jane Griffin walked into Amélie Romilly's studio in Geneva, and sat for a portrait.

It's still the most recognisable image of the woman who would become Lady Franklin, and it inspired Mary Grant's 1877 sculpture (photographed by in 2019).

Francis Leopold McClintock - the undisputed king of the - died in 1907, aged 88. He lies in Hanwell in West London with his wife Annette and their daughter Elizabeth.

Happy birthday to Sir Henry Kellett, born in Tipperary, in 1806.

He was on and at Greenhithe and watched them sail past Sheerness. And he spent years of his life searching for them, on Herald (1848-50) and Resolute (1852-54).

Breadalbane was at Beechey to resupply the Belcher expedition. She was under the command of Edward Inglefield: captain, artist, Hartnell-coffin-plate-remover.

Here he is looking great in a hat. And that's Breadalbane and Phoenix in Melville Bay. Images: National Maritime Museum.

We don't know how Sir John Franklin died. We know only that it happened on 11th June 1847.

James Fitzjames was now captain of Erebus. Strong, brave, and charismatic, he would surely be a great leader. But their situation may already have been dire. And it would get much worse.

“I think I made a connection tonight, me and it. I feel like we got engaged, and I want to celebrate.”

There's a lot I don't like about Belcher. I am particularly annoyed about the abuse he dished out to my boy And he refused to listen to who tried to save the ships from abandonment. 3/

Let's have a look at those ships. There's (lost), (lost and found), (lost), (lost). The North Star was spared, presumably because Belcher needed a ride home. 2/
