Cats were beloved pets in Ancient Egypt kept by Pharaohs and commoners alike. Worshipped through the gods Bastet and Mut, cats were mummified and sometimes buried in ornate, tiny sarcophagi.
The first known named cat-Nedjem, meaning "sweetie"- dates from the reign of Thutmose III
The Tekh Festival, or Festival or Drunkenness, was a celebration honouring Hathor. Commemorating the story of humanity being saved from her wrath by her overindulgence in beer, the festival was one of many dedicated to the cow goddess of fertility.

Sobek, the Egyptian crocodilian god of the Nile, was a protective and solar deity, warding off evil and protecting the innocent. In the New Kingdom period, he was fused with the Sun god to form Sobek-Ra, symbolizing the power of the Pharaohs and fertility of the Nile floodplains.
