Sobek, the Egyptian crocodilian god of the Nile, was a protective and solar deity, warding off evil and protecting the innocent. In the New Kingdom period, he was fused with the Sun god to form Sobek-Ra, symbolizing the power of the Pharaohs and fertility of the Nile floodplains.

Sourced from only two fragments of the Book of the Dead, little is known about the god Medjed. Referred to as "the Smiter," Medjed is said to "shoot with his eye, yet remain unseen," suggesting a role as a protector or watchman of Osiris.
