i feel like early phase 3 (before the trajectory of the story/characters were decided on) is probably the most mysterious era of gorillaz art to me. i'd kill to see more early sketches from this era to piece it all together.

Anyone got any ideas why Jamie is drawing cigarettes like this now (ie as plain white sticks without the orange bit at the end)? I assumed it was just for style points in the art book but he also seems to be doing it in his “default” style now

@AntonioMabs Oh yeah it's definitely Photoshop (I see the smudge tool being used too), I'm just very doubtful on it being Jamie. There's this from around the same time where I reckon the clouds WERE painted by him, since they're a lot more in line with his colouring style from this era.
