I'm not sure how to explain it, but related to the focus on strength, another important thing was to show the active, difficult decisions they had to do - from their decision to get into these boats in the first place, and pursuing work and education in other countries.

Please check out @omar_film! Omar's Film School is an informal school formed by Rohingya refugees, and they provided the english anecdotes and recording. Thank you so much for your work.

Some of the most impactful parts of the story, I think, are the refugees' interviews. To hear not only their experiences, but their own hopes for their lives and futures. I remember being struck by Shamsun's story about the time she arrived at the Aceh shores, how vivid it felt.

It was really important for us (and UNHCR also told us this beforehand) to depict the strength and resilience of these refugees, even in dangerous and helpless situations. We want to get people to care and help, but not exactly in a "tugging heartstrings" way.
