And finally, beach-nesters! Like the ground-nesting birds in fields, these birds can be frightened away from their eggs, leaving them to overcool or overheat. Since the eggs blend in so well to the sand, it is also easy for both dogs and people to accidentally step on them!
On mudflats, migratory birds like these geese often rest and feed; being scared off by dogs running about can cause them to use up valuable energy that otherwise would have been expended on migration and gathering food.
