here's my read on what parts Gundam Aerial has inherited across the generations in terms of visual design. as usual, Gundam upgrade designs have a bunch of panel lines moved, but I think only a few of them are meant to represent parts that actually are a different shape.

feels like they're going for this cool serious low key aesthetic and juuust almost make it there but then the faces end up looking like these goofballs

shoulda gone with one of those ⟦|⟧ or ⟬|⟭ faces

I have become mildly obsessed after realizing that this presentation from 2017 about the Doan's Island manga (running in Gundam Ace for about a year at the time) included Waff Reconnaissance Type design art which, as far as I can tell, was never seen again

it's almost got this one figured out. it's something about the hair.

before its over capacity era, I checked what DALL-E Mini knows about robots. seems like model kit & toy photos are overwhelming in its training set, much like how products dominate Google Images results. I see some influence from design art & anime stills in "mecha anime", though

Armor of Leda as seen:
in the OAV;
on the home video cover;
illustrated by Hideki Tamura for a The Anime magazine furoku calendar;
and in an fantastic (ehehe) illustration by the OAV's character designer, Mutsumi Inomata.

today I'm enjoying the "Armor of Leda" robot, from the 1985 OAV Genmu Senki Leda, aka The Fantastic Adventure of Yohko. designed by Takahiro Toyomasu, who also built a model for Comic Bonbon! this style of OAV-era robot design had an influence on mecha modeling which never faded. https://t.co/PorzrfVoiT
