As a museum devoted to preserving the work of one of Britain's greatest illustrators, we are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of another. A patron of the Association of Illustrators, Raymond Briggs' legacy will live forever.

In 1928, Marcel Breuer designed the innovative and widely-replicated Cesca chair.

In the 1936 book 'How to Live in a Flat', Heath Robinson made the style his own, and reimagined the chair for a variety of purposes- including a steel piano!

The Robinson sisters weren't afforded many opportunities to utilise their talents in the way that their brothers did, but Mary was a talented calligrapher, and worked on an Art Nouveau-style illustrated edition of William Blake's 'Songs of Innocence' with her brother Charles✏️

This weekend is your last chance to catch 'Korky Paul's The Magic of Illustration' at the museum! Sadly there won't be fireworks, but you will be able to find Wilbur, amongst other iconic Korky Paul characters throughout the exhibition 🐈‍⬛🪄

Undoubtedly Heath Robinson’s most infamous works are his satirical and whimsical cartoons, however, he was an accomplished illustrator across multiple styles! These pieces, taken from a 1908 edition of Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’ show immense skill with tone, shade and light 🎨
