Printmaker Julius John Lankes #BornOnThisDay 1884 in Buffalo, New York. He provided illustrations for the leftist magazine The Liberator & enjoyed a long friendship with Robert Frost, illustrating his poetry. He also provided illustrations for Sherwood Anderson & Beatrix Potter.

Artist & activist Joe Jones #BornOnThisDay 1909 in St Louis, Missouri. Largely self-taught, he left school at 15 to work as a house painter. He lived for a while in a houseboat & painted several New Deal murals.Although a communist he was enlisted as a combat artist during WW2.
