Distinct shapes of headdresses (gugu hat, boqta) carry over 800+ years from the 13th c. Mongol court to Tuva girls. It always fascinates me to find traces of the bygone eras survive to our times. Tuva, now part of Russia, was under the Mongols in 13-18 c.
“After hoisting a white banner with nine tails, they bestowed the title of Khan on Genghiz Khan” (c) SHM. Mongol banner of white horse tails meant peace, black tails meant war. Can be either nine banners or one banner w/9 tails. Copied by the Turks, Poles, Hungarians & Russians.
