When they do go into having more traditionally feminine designs they aren't afraid to mix it up a bit. When it comes to more non-conventional magical girl designs (skirts/shorts/gloves) it still maintains the character's overall appearance/femininity but in a way that looks good!

Don't get me wrong, sometimes Pretty Cure's outfits aren't the best, but even the ones I don't like still have that APPEAL/ORIGINALITY. I never really found a season in which I said, "That's just the Pink cure but Yellow!" Each design really does have so much put into them.

This girl's dream is to be a princess, but for how ridiculous as it sounds, the show makes the concept work well in a realistic manner. Her design, her alter ego, Cure Flora, has so many cues I can hardly describe them all.

Let's talk about Smile! Pretty Cure! In that season, it's mostly focused on physical gags/comedy. Complicated dressy designs found in a season like Princess wouldn't help with the simple tone. So instead, each design is more uniform in nature like with Yes5 but simplified.

Back to Yes! 5! it was about 5 girls with different personalities coming together to stop a great evil, thus the differing outfits, but 5 Gogo is basically pulling all the punches because the girls ARE already close. As a result, their outfits are more uniform in nature.

Another example is Cure Melody and Cure Rhythm from Suite!~ Pretty Cure. They both start out not liking each other after a fight but are still close to the one thing that brings them together; music! As a result, both outfits have subtle hints of the duo's primary colors/hobbies.

A great example is Cure Mint and Cure Aqua's designs. As they're close friends both of their outfits (Yes5/Gogo) share similiar elements. Their dresses are inverted and both have the same gloves/boots as well. It's a really clever touch I realized that's easily missed.

And two! Cute, but Elegant . One of the things I miss with older magical girl shows is while the designs were cute, they were still classy in their own right. Not to say we don't have that NOW, but there's a charm to it (e.g Sailor Moon's outfits, Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, etc )

I could gush so much about why I love Pretty Cure designs. There's just something for everyone and one of the things I love about pretty cure is how they mix and match clothing and aren't afraid to try different styles. A Long Thread🎉👇 Be warned! I gush a lot here!
