Up until this point, I have primarily focused on shape design.

This was the first piece in which I've left behind shapes in favor of gradients.

My goal is to learn to paint on a nearly photorealistic render pipeline, similar to Pixar's Soul.

Learning a lot! One step at a time.

For the curious viewer:

I actually have a lot of trouble drawing with lines. For animation/caricature, I can do it. But when it comes to rendering realistic 3D scenes, my brain freezes over.

I'm trying to get around this by "sketching with occlusion shadows" like you see here.
