How do you handle these competing artistic interests? How do you maintain excitement for what’s right in front of you, as well as your ultimate goal? 3/3

I’d love to know how other artists handle this problem:
You have a big project. Requires money, clout, experience. Its your life’s work. Project X
You need a way to start your craft, so you work on project 1: manageable enough to to finish
Its taking longer than you thought. 1/3
