I feel like a lot of my shading is just full backlighting with a teensy bit of light reflected on certain parts. Sometimes I don't even let the light shine directly on the face at all lol.

got some comments @ my rendering, so:
1. base colors + lines all go in 1 layer group
2. multiply on clipping layer to that layer group, ~60% layer opac
3. glow dodge layer ~36%, fill color, for tone balancing
4. glow dodge, v soft brush ~20% opac, for glows
