i am using my powers to make drew your favorite character ooo0o0ooo0o0o0ooooo
picrews don't work for me because I'm so Plain lmao no flavor AT ALL! default character.
It seems by the end of the series Drew became more accepting of the idea that emotion doesn’t invalidate strength. It’s such a subtle but real flaw for him to work through and I’m still wishing him the best. 🥺 (5/5)
He thrives on negativity (strict discipline, teasing May) but he also doesn’t like being reminded that he’s not a kind person (May telling Harley they aren’t friends causing him to sulk during the Hoenn GF). Ironically in a pursuit to grow strong, he’s trapped himself. (4/5)
He seems to look down on the way she trains, saying she praises Pokémon when they aren’t perfect, thus not deserving of kindness. But I don’t think he *refuses* to be nicer, it’s that he feels he can’t be. Seeing May able to succeed as a kind person harms his self-image. (3/5)
I think that’s why he builds up distance & animosity towards May in Kanto. It’s not *just* that she’s on his level or maybe even about to surpass him, but the way she does it. She’s still emotional and she’s still having fun. To Drew she didn’t have to “give up” anything. (2/5)
I think the Kanto Grand Festival confrontation between May and Drew is so important! We see a real difference in how May embraces emotion to push herself forward, where Drew locks emotions away because he sees them as a weakness. 🥺
(It’s thread time baby 1/5 let’s go)
I tried to do a somewhat chronological order of his journey. Optimism into overconfidence, interest into Feelings, and by the end there’s a theme of accepting your faults and moving ahead rather than letting them hold you back.
(Runaway is my fave track for him, I get teary 🥺)
