Always said how important @20thCFlicks is to #Bristol. Flicks is the sun that all other film organisations revolve around. The launch of @FWFilmFestival marks the 40th birthday of Flicks and a celebration of all those collaborations! Get involved: https://t.co/NXw6SHFxOq
Joseph Losey’s #BritNoir The Criminal (1960) is tearing its way onto @TalkingPicsTV tonight at 9pm.
A fascinating #NeoNoir which highlights the conflicts on either side of the prison walls as well as the influences of ‘big business’ in British crime! A few #FilmNoir moments.
Film in #lockdown for today is David MacDonald’s #FilmNoir Good Time Girl (1948) @TalkingPicsTV, 12:30pm. Forgotten by many, this would make a perfect double bill with Brighton Rock (1948). Jean Kent is brilliant in this. #FilmTwitter
Speaking of #Noir keep an eye on @FilmNoirUK.
Films in #lockdown for today are both on Sony Movies Classic, The Wild One (1953), 12:05pm with Brando’s iconic role. Don’t forget, it was banned in the UK for 14 years, the same year our next film, In the Heat of the Night (1967), 9pm was released. An incredibly important film!
Film for everyone in #lockdown for today is @BartfromRaw’s brilliant American Animals (2018), @Film4, 9pm. I’m really not going to say anything about the film; in fact, don’t read anything about it at all until after you’ve seen it. It makes it even more fun! Enjoy!
The Strange Love of Martha Ivers (1946) is my film in #lockdown for today. @TalkingPicsTV, 10:30am. Classic #FilmNoir with Barbara Stanwyck, Lizabeth Scott, Van Heflin and some young chap called Kirk Douglas. Directed (mainly) by Lewis Milestone. REALLY worth watching this one!
Film in #lockdown for today is #Bristol born J. Lee Thompson’s thriller The Chairman (1969), @TalkingPicsTV, 7:35pm, starring Gregory Peck and Anne Heywood. Thompson tries (but fails) to go all Bond. It’s perfect escapist entertainment. Great music by Jerry Goldsmith however.
It’s a smörgåsbord of films for my film(s) in #lockdown for today on #Freeview. The Remains of the Day (1993) on Sony Movies, 11:45am and straight afterwards Dances with Wolves (1990) at 2:30pm. Finally, the brilliant Under the Skin (2013) on @Film4, 1:25am. #HappyNewYear
Final film(s) suggestion for #lockdown for 2020 is a double bill which really does work (it really does). Howard Hawks’ classic Rio Bravo (1959) BBC TWO, 1:15pm. Then, Edgar Wright’s superb Hot Fuzz (2007) ITV 2, 9:00pm. #fantasydoublebills #HappyNewYear2021 #HappyNewYear
Film for #lockdown for today is David MacDonald’s Good Time Girl (1948) on @TalkingPicsTV, 7:30pm. This is a no holds barred British #FilmNoir which most certainly should be celebrated more. Screening this and Brighton Rock (1948) together would make a fantastic double-bill.
