Beep beep. It's the birthday of Frederic Bazille (1841-1870) the pioneering Impressionist who died before the movement took off. He came from Montpellier. I remember recreating the works below in my Impressionism series. The light was exactly right. Just like the paintings.

Hello from Krakow! Behind me is Wawel Castle, the home of the Polish kings. I’m here because Rembrandt’s mysterious painting The Polish Rider is currently on show at the castle. It’s usually in New York at the Frick Collection! How exciting to see it in Poland! Go go go!

Another extraordinary painting from the Winslow Homer show at the National Gallery. Two ducks - I think they are goldeneye - flying over the Atlantic. One has been shot. You can see the tiny hunting boat on the horizon. What does it mean? Where do Homer’s sympathies lie..?
