Or something even more terrible... perhaps reaching a certain technological level every biological civilization is supplanted as soon as it develops self-aware artificial intelligences, entering the threshold of the technological singularity.
3️⃣. We are f*****.
That is, the "great filter" is in the future.
It may be common for life to evolve to our level, but something prevents it from going any further and reaching the level of a galactic civilization.
2️⃣. We are the first.
Perhaps conditions in the universe are, for the first time since the Big Bang, ripe for the rise of intelligent life.
We could be one of the first species on the way to a super-intelligent civilization!
- The jump to an advanced brain like the one we have (most 🤣) of humans.
- Characteristics of the Earth that make it tremendously habitable. Example: the Moon, which acts as a shield against the solar wind and softens the climate. Or anything else that makes us unique!
Later, these replicas would be sent to other systems spreading like viruses.
Traveling at non-relativistic speeds well below the speed of light, it is theorized that a swarm of these ships could colonize our galaxy in as little as 0.5M years.
The wink of an eye!
«Yeah... But Javi, those percentages (1% of 1%) you have taken them out of the hat, right?».
Indeed. As Drake did in his famous equation.
The reality is that we cannot apply statistics if our sampling is just... only one: the Earth!
What would an Egyptian of 5,000 years ago think of our current civilization and technology?
Now try to imagine a civilization that would take us 8.5 billion years of technological advantage.
My head explodes 🤯.
First, let's review some concepts:
1. The Earth is 4,500M years old.
2. The universe is 13.700M years old.
3. According to conservative estimates, there are 100 Earth-like planets in the observable universe for every grain of sand on Earth. Wow!
I will talk about concepts like "The Dark Forest" and the famous and maligned Drake equation.
And we will also see, one by one, 12 possible explanations for the fact that the first contact with an extraterrestrial civilization has not yet occurred (that we know of 👽🛸🤣).
