This painting concludes the 100 Paintings Project! It is an expression of my gratitude for all I’ve learned during this project.

Here I’ve got my classic white spiral on a stable field of amethyst. The glowing sky above symbolizes excitement and possibility.

I used to think learning happened with clear, forward progression.

Reality is far more nuanced. Progression may/may not be visible. There is a plateau of messing around at the same level before learning enough to inch ahead. Most importantly, you are never done.

Sometimes things are objectively bad/heartbreaking/shitty.
And maybe, in the midst of that steaming pile of nope, you find waves of joy.
Maybe you feel a little guilty about that.
Me too.

This is ok. More than ok, it’s entirely human.
It’s our resilience.

I’ve made several paintings about having too many ideas/thoughts/interests swirling around my mind. In this most recent experience, the multitude is bright, colourful, and interesting.

A thing I struggle with is conflicting desires.
I want to do A and I want to do B.
While I’m doing A, I’m thinking about B.
And while I’m doing B, I’m thinking about A.

It sucks.

A person I care for is working with a difficult situation. In their struggle, I see deep compassion for the other people involved. It’s beautiful to witness.

I’ve taught myself a lesson: when looking at clouds, use my eyes + phone to see what’s there.

This loop of cloud was not clear to my eyes when I looked up. But when I looked through my phone, there it was!
