Here is Colobonema sericeum (or the silky medusa) doing a little jelly dance in space! As Earthly as jellies are, their buoyancy and delicate bodies make me think of them in the vacuum of space.

Check out to see all the jellies shared so far!

This is one of Haeckel's Peromedusae. His work always seems simpler on first glance than when I get in there with a pen and brush...

Celebrating the glory that is Vampyroteuthis infernalis, the vampire squid, who is neither vampire nor squid. This is known as “pineapple posture” and is deployed as a (questionable) defence mechanism by worried vampire squids.

One of our campsites had 2-3 of the bright red fungi, and just ladders and ladders of the little green crescents.

Bonus: Can you find the little sluggo in the painting?

I did a couple of these jellies in space for and this one is my favourite. I've learned a few things about how to better apply stars. This is C. sericeum being coy, in outer space!

A rosette of yellow nudibranch eggs. I'm experimenting with coloured pencils and am feeling unsure about this early effort.

A value + hue study of a single cherry. Honestly, that shiny surface is such a good time!

Dolphins, after Matisse's La Danse.
For my love, who enjoys Matisse more than I do, and who has been chortling about this for months.

This is my first effort at digital painting in ages. If I did it again I'd find a way to use a stylus, the finger painting is exhausting. I've got no energy to create texture on this squiddy so I'm presenting it to you as flat as it is!

A worried vampire squid has turned itself inside out: pineapple posture. Admittedly I have some skepticism about this particular defence mechanism.
