I have some thoughts.
First off: a side by side of Chthon in the comics (I believe from the 2015 Carnage run) and Chthon(?) in an MoM trailer

Dougal Dixon's After Man: A Zoology of the Future features a couple of penguin-descended species, namely the Vortex (a whale-like filter feeder) and the Porpin (an aquatic predator similar to the dolphin)
