The solution is really easy, just being mindful of values at all times right from the start. If the goal is to create an appealing 2d visual, then why wouldn't you think of values and shapes from the start?
And it's actually really easy to pinpoint the issue. Most, if not all the thinking is done in the first, rough stage, surely it's at fault here. And the reason for it is: not thinking through the shapes properly.
