My biggest challenge was to try and turn off the usual logic of perspective and focus on how to make it more iconic. I don't feel I have succeeded it fully, but it was a fun experience!
Besides that, it's a surprisingly versatile style, with different levels of complexity, size and even techniques: you can find them painted, embroidered, and some modern ones even have printing techniques applied!
From what I could observe, there is no specific "rule" on what you can do in a Thangka, but there are some more frequent depictions, like Budas, and the Samsara wheel.
