@RhymeWithRay Finally, the stylization—the thing that unifies all these characters are:
- Elliptical eyes
- Open positive space in areas like hair/clothes
- Slight variation on traditionally understood facial proportions
- Semi-realistic body proportions (heads are bigger)
@RhymeWithRay SPEAKING OF TEXTURE, there is a slight texture on materials such as fur and stone, and sort of this “smudgy” texture on art from Gen 4 and Gen 6.
Note the texture on Gigalith and on Whitney’s shirt. I like to use a low opacity multiply layer to apply texture.
@RhymeWithRay Anyways notice the shading on Alexa’s body here—you’ll note that there are usually two tones, with a sort of half-opacity border separating tones/base colors. The way I like to do this is with two multiply layers, the lighter one purple and the darker one blue.
@RhymeWithRay I’m doing this from my phone so it’s gonna be a lil crunchy but notice how the linework is used both to convey texture and contour of facial features (in particular the space connecting the ear to the rest of the face, the eyebrow to bridge of nose, etc.)
half of these are obvious to anyone who's spent more than 5 minutes with me https://t.co/EHTfDEB2BN
