If you look at official illustrations, the shade changes a lot - sometimes it's really ashy, sometimes it's orangey, sometimes it's pinkish... I don't think he colours it, I think Akutami just likes playing around with the design haha.

#cc If I look close enough at the second volume cover then I can kinda see green but most official (manga) art so far as had him with blue eyes:
