8. This is a strange technicality.
The first Pokémon J ever had as a Trainer was a Cyndaquil named Vesuvius, but the first Pokémon he ever met and befriended was Mercury, his Corviknight. Years later, he reunited with Mercury and she finally became one of his official partners.
