The CW made Kara a reporter.
It was not her "calling" in the comics it was Clark's
Having it tossed about as her defining characteristic just highlights how CW never cared about doing a show about her and her history at all.

@loganpars It got a little better over time. But the Comics Code was 100% there to keep comics white it's not limited to any one title. Like Star Trek it had to rely on metaphor but is now making up for it.
