Back in 2009 I was offered a gig for Dark Horse comics:
To draw a star wars cover art!
That was a kid dream, then I realized it was on a low tech planet with no light saber, and I wasn't good enough at drawing characters :)
I had some more luck in 2015 for the Thrawn trilogy

I used this to explore and to go in all the directions I wanted to.
