When 16mm film scanning gives you 35mm tier quality tho... 🥴

Decided to do something original. This is our new mascot, Crystal Silver Halide, a film archivist who ALWAYS wears gloves when handling precious materials 😤 fashionable/trendy too, & designs film-based accessories! This was done for us by @Amie_draws so be sure to check her out!

This particular short is from 1981, but good to see anime from the 70s on 35mm look so crisp.
Fun fact: We scanned this on the EXACT same machine as the Criterion Collection just after they finished using it for one of their films 😎 thanks to one of our member's connections 👀

Shots from a #35mm teaser trailer for #Pokemon Movie 5 that was made very early in its production.

Images of production cels featured in the extras of the first #DaiconIII VHS (known as the Deficit Relief Committee Release). There are scans of some of these real cels we can reference too, but differences in scanning exposure/color doesn't always make them the most accurate.

Now something more "American", we got a trailer for American Pop (1981) transferred. The film used rotoscoping as its main technique but also includes so many other styles like watercolor/CG/live action/archival footage! Same director Lord of the Rings (1978)/Fire and Ice (1983)!

This might be a little bit better actually.

I did a very quick test to see if it was possible to bring Daicon III's 8mm closer to cel colors and while it's not perfect I did manage to get close-ish. Skin could be better. #8mm #Super8
