Just signed a contract with Oxford World's Classics 2 do first ever modern, scholarly, properly edited, paperback edition of Pierce Egan's 1821 smash hit *Life in London*, with my esteemed co-editors @ProfJohnGardner,
@MJRSangster & non-tweeting David Stewart.
Time 2 DANCE!
Feeling strongly about all my allies, collaborators, friends & colleagues in all English Literature teams across UK & beyond today. What an incredible subject this is. Some things am reading / teaching / researching just now - all incredible - what a liberating subject ours is.
This morning, lecturing on Matthew Lewis's disgrace of a gothic novel, *The Monk*. Here's some wealthy women reading it in 1802. Proof that you only need one copy of a book, and one person who can read it, to ruin the morals of a whole friend group. They all seem rather excited.
