Happy Birthday, William Brice (1921-2008)! Today we celebrate a key figure in the landscape of Los Angeles contemporary art, and the life of a brilliant and beloved artist and teacher.
Eliyahu Harkham’s sketch is a transcription of Kossoff’s “Bacchanal Before a Herm” (1997-8) which is, itself, a transcription after Nicolas Poussin’s “A Bacchanalian Revel before a Term” (1632-3), now on view at @GettyMuseum in ‘Poussin and the Dance.’
On view May 24: “Rebecca Campbell: Infinite Density, Infinite Light,” bringing together recent painting and a multimedia sculpture installation that delve into hidden histories and revel in the wonders of creation and young life.

“Instead of pulling out the obvious crowd-pleasers, the Morgan opts for the intimate — it meets Hockney where he began, as a working-class kid who could draw.”
