when to be accurate and realistic? what is important information and what is visual noise? what is within the realm of expected variation and what is an anomaly or potentially distracting? what is your intended audience's anticipated knowledge base?

and then there are other illustrator's depictions where are also extremely variable! i see variations of the one on the left everywhere and it has some inaccuracies, but also so does netter's! the aorta isnt red and the vena cava isn't blue!
