The Nursery "Alice" (1889/90) is a short version of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) by Lewis Carroll. It contains coloured illustrations from John Tenniel. “It’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.”

[1 of 2 tweets] A Rake's Progress - 8 paintings by William Hogarth (GB, 1697–1764). First 4 pictures: (1) The Heir (2) The Levée (3) The Orgy (4) The Arrest. Tom Rakewell, heir & spendthrift son. Note the Rose Tavern, a famous brothel in Covent Garden - and then arrest for debt.

Perseus and Andromeda (1720) by Hendrick Jacob Hoet (c. 1693–1733) The Bowes Museum. Andromeda is shackled to the rocks, threatened by the monster. Perseus approaches on Pegasus, the winged divine horse. Read all about it in Ovid's Metamorphoses.

The Birds of America (1840-44) by John James Audubon (USA, 1785-1851). "One of the finest ornithological works ever completed". Audubon depicted the birds in their natural habitats, and is said to have identified 25 new species.
