Day 71
Suspicion 疑惑 (Nomura Yoshitarō, 1982)
One of the best court room/procedural movies I’ve seen recently, sharp and smart, beautifully shot and with excellent performances all around. Momoi Kaori is amazingly wild.
Unfortunately no Cannes Film Festival this year. Let’s keep it alive by listing what Japanese movies were awarded at the festival since it was founded in 1946.

Day 24
Fireworks, Should We See It from the Side or the Bottom? 打ち上げ花火、下から見るか? 横から見るか? (Iwai Shunji, 1993)
Made for TV in 1993 and released theatrically two years later, it’s a surprisingly good slice of life teen-age drama.
Adapted in an animation in 2017.
Film twitter, I need your help:
are there any other examples of Satoyama 里山 in animation besides Totoro and Only Yesterday?
RT appreciated
