Kamishibai is a form of Japanese storytelling using sets of illustrated plates that are placed in a miniature stage
Professional storytellers told the kamishibai stories to kids on the street. But kamishibai were also used for instruction in organized settings
Instruction by kamishibai was one of these preparations
In March 1943, the Great Japan Air Defense Association (財国法人 大日本防空協曾編纂) published 3 sets:
Part I - Basic Training (基本訓練篇)
Part 2 - Warning and Countermeasures (警戒・對策篇)
Part 3 - Air Raids (空襲篇)
Just purchased some beautiful kamishibai (紙芝居) about #Japan's air defense essentials published in 1943 (showa 18)
Titled “Our Air Defense” (我等の防空, Wareware no Bōkū), each series features 24 plates explaining how to prepare
These kamishibai have a fascinating back story
