We see how conflicted Leewon’s mind is after everything he went through. One side of him wants to hate Caesar and remembers his threats and violence but the other one remembers the person who showed him tenderness and the one who protected him with his own life
Although Leewon had feelings for Caesar before, it’s logical that no one would ever forgive nor miss someone who r*ped and almost killed them. No one, except those who develop Stockholm syndrome- a defensive mechanism and strong feelings of empathy and need for their captor
That’s when all pieces come together- violence, threats of death and weird affection from Caesar along with Leewon’s need for survival. In situations like that a person will do everything to live and in order to cope develops unusual feelings towards their captor
What Caesar puts him through after that is absolutely cruel and unforgivable and it quite literally destroys his life. He barely survives and tells him that he will never forgive him for that
Throughout the story things become more and more complicated. Leewon feels like he can’t take the pressure of dealing with the mafia and decides to leave everything behind. That shows us that even though he had feelings and cared for Caesar he didn’t quite love him yet
Leewon strongly misses his mother and even after her death still “looks” for her. When she died he had no one and there was a certain emptiness to him that somehow Caesar fills and the care he gives reminds him of the same care his mother was giving him
Those things weren’t put in the story without the reason and actually show that inside, Leewon lacks affection and care and secretly needs someone. A partner, who would be giving him all that and it turns out Caesar is exactly the said person
When Caesar carries him in a blanket it reminds him of his mother doing the same when he was a child and when Caesar says that he will protect him no matter what, he also instantly remembers his mother. As if the care that he was giving Leewon was like a motherly one to him
From the beginning of the story Caesar is seductive and courts Leewon and eventually he also falls for him. In addition to that, there is a couple of interesting things about his relationship with Caesar that are tied to his childhood too
With time however, as we dig deeper into the story we start to notice his softer side. The one with feelings, the one he hides from everyone behind the shell and the one that he’s probably afraid to admit that exists- the need for care and affection from someone
