They also had some pretty fun characters, probably one of my favorites was Hotaru ( 萤 ), then again, maybe I'm a sucker for tropes that he was involved in. Pic related.

Suddenly thought of a manga that I read when I was younger than ended a couple years back.
Samurai Deeper Kyo was pretty cool, they had a couple of pretty fun characters that mixed historical events with fantasy. It was probably one of the earlier ones to use that formula.
