Some time later he makes an entrance on Chandra and Demeck like so. This is a good summary of what I've been talking about here, the bold shapes and colors mix with the serious and dramatic framing to create a powerful tension. I had NO idea what was gonna happen when I read this

At the beginning of the chapter Senti spends a while picking the brain of Demeck's would-be murderer, and after a fairly astute and empathetic walk through her thought process, his delivers this utterly incredible line:

As an aside, the level of emotional fidelity Lora achieves with these plastic faces she drafts up is sort of unbelievable. It's amazing how powerfully she can go from cartoony comedy to heart-wrenching tragedy to complex mixes without interrupting the visual consistency at all.

The comic places its expressive, jovial characters among these complex, neon-noir environments, full of harsh shadows and bright highlights, a world of candy colored danger, ready to jerk the reader's chain in the very best way.

"The Otherknown", by my friend @longlostlora, looks cutesy at first glance, full of round shapes and soft faces and high-contrast colors. This is an important impression; it's one of its primary visual markers, and also one of the primary methods by which it lies to the reader.

Now generally this would not work great because comedy does not dovetail into that sort of visceral horror so easily, usually the audience rejects this. But the writing here has been careful, and we the readers have never forgotten that our silly boys are absolutely in danger.

For the most part this has allowed the conceit of the scenario to play out squarely in VG's strike zone: excellent character bits, goofy slapstick, and @kellysketches' simply transcendent mastery of drawing faces.
