Frigate-dragons are also known as the "pirate's bane". Since the early days of seafaring these large sea dragons have scavenged especially pirate ships. Perhaps the black sails invoked a primal rivalry in these dragons. #smaugust #smaugust2020 #shinonsmaugust
The white-booted racket-tail dragons are small and extremely fast so people who saw one usually managed to notice only a single detail before the dragon was gone. It was thought to be at least three different species before someone pieced it together. #smaugust #shinonsmaugust
Large frogmouth dragons live only in untouched woods. Their appearance varies depending on the most common tree in the area. They use camouflage to hide from other dragons and to prey on small animals, which they drop down on - sometimes they succeed, sometimes they eat dirt.
Here's a close up! I spent too long on figuring out the face to just reduce it to pixel mush.
Thought to be one of the largest modern dragons the Philippine Eagle dragon is also known as the king of the skies. Due to its rarity and size people can't imagine it ever landing anywhere and tell tales of a mighty dragon that has its home in the wind.
