It’s hard not to be charmed by this collection of 50 late-Qing portraits of popular stage characters. I love the chonky 哪吒, the energetic 黃忠, the imperturbable 諸葛亮. You can almost hear the laughter of 石忠玉, who does not appear to exist in today’s rep.
