Happy Birthday to trad jazz trumpeter De De Pierce, born in New Orleans on this day in 1904. De De toured and recorded extensively with his wife, Billie Pierce, in the 1960s, and both were regulars at Preservation Hall.
On this day in 1949, Louis Armstrong appeared as King Zulu in the Zulu Mardi Gras Parade. His reign was documented across the nation, including the cover of @TIME Magazine.
