John William Waterhouse (1849 - 1917)
Oh man, I need to work on my anatomy, my brushwork and everything else.

Here's a new one, from me

Melian warns Beleg, upon his being gifted Anglachel, the former sword of Eöl, the Dark Elf.

"There is malice in this sword. The dark heart of the smith still dwells in it. It will not love the hand that it serves, neither will it abide with you long."

There are certainly showier Tolkien artists out there, with blue rim light, and everything. But Alan Lee continues to be my favourite, and my biggest influence, by a huge margin. Here's four of my favourites of his.

Here's my Melkor and Sauron. Sauron is shown here, after his body was destroyed when Numenor fell. I thought a tiny crumb of nobility would be left in Melkor's face, worthy of the Ainur. I've shown him with the scars on his face inflicted by the Great Eagle, Thorondor.

Is there anyone in your profession, who you'd give your right arm to tutor you? Its been 25+ years, and I'm still none the wiser, as to some of Crag Mullins' techniques.
There's more of his remarkable work, here.

Endless City
This is one of a series of environments I designed, a long time ago, for a game that didn't make it past the concept art stage.
The art director was Nilo Rodis-Jamero, who helped to bring Buzz Lightyear and Boba Fett to life

I was Johnny on the spot for that job! 😂

"Dreadful among these spirits were the Valaraukar, the scourges of fire that in Middle Earth were called the Balrogs, demons of terror."

Personal work of mine
Many of Arien's sisters were drawn to Melkor, "in the days of his greatness, and remained in that allegiance, down into his darkness,"

Personal work.
Here's an ancient one of mine, from about 21 years ago, when I was still getting to grips with Photoshop. There's all sorts of influences in there. Tolkien, Anglo-Saxon myth, Transformers, Teletubbies, you name it.
