very fascinated that the original animated mario movie features a creature based closely on the jeep from popeye (the military vehicle was named after it!), considering that donkey kong started out as a popeye game

the funniest thing about it is they seemingly had to change the dude in the promo art from holding a realistic gun, to holding a fantasy monster gun, to finally holding a goofy looking skull to comply with ad guidelines
