Today’s #PlagueDoctorArt installment from my 12-year-old:
Plague Doctor feeding Plague Bird Doctors.
"To dream about eating a book is a good thing for educated people, for sophists, and for all those who earn their living discoursing about books."
Artemidorus of Ephesus, Oneirocritica (Interpretation of Dreams), 130 AD

I collect different editions of #LewisCarroll’s Alice, for their illustrations. One of my favorite illustrators is the Czech artist Markéta Prachatická, born in 1953. (She has also worked on Hans Christian Andersen and Jaroslav Seifert.)
On this day, in 1887, Czech artist Josef Lada was born. He is most celebrated for bringing the Good Soldier Švejk to life, but I also love Lada for his iconic fairy-tale and village prints that decorated so many walls of my Prague childhood.

I can personally vouch for one of them:
Through the Woods by Emily Carroll is eerily beautiful and quite unsettling. I read it one dark night when I was alone in the house. That was unwise.
