I’m channeling Scotland again😉 This is the next stage of last Fridays post. Is it nearly finished?
Luckily I’ll be heading back up there to paint on Mull and Iona later this year with the inspirational @deewalkerartist 🏴 https://t.co/peNm1IywHu
Wishing you all a 🌟Happy New Year🌟
I thought I would share this gift I received from @artofseanphillips this Christmas, a wonderful portrait in oils by @nicolasuribeb.
It depicts a moment captured while teaching and looking rather thoughtful …

Getting the watercolours out just feels like coming home 🍂
It has been a while and I had almost forgotten how wonderful it is to work with fluid pigment and lots of water.
I’m really looking forward to sharing the results of my return to fluidity… https://t.co/1AGYtgN7AI
I have been making a variety of studies here on Iona, from simple line drawings to capture shapes, to colour studies using my faithful portable watercolour palette.
It’s always the colours here that pull me in which I then like to anchor with line work … https://t.co/77994JxB2R
First layer down…
I felt the urge to mix up turquoise greens and greyed off purples today. Maybe it’s the excitement of my upcoming week on Iona with @deewalkerartist that’s brought on this colour palette 😃

I thought I’d share this first layer of a new painting with you today. I’m working on a very smooth gessoed panel which results in the paint a’slipping and a’sliding all over the surface 😳
Once this has dried off I’ll give it an isolation coat to pr… https://t.co/PmPFTf1xr5
It was time to dust off the acrylics today as I begin a new series of Lakeland landscapes.
Feels good to be back in the studio pushing colour and light around 😀

Sometimes picking up the wrong paper is a gift 🙏
I am quite taken by the way the watercolour has settled into the woven paper texture amplified by my ‘interfering’ broad brush strokes dragged over semi dry paint.

Notice what you notice…
…. After a summer break I am back in the studio to reignite my curiosity.
Guess what- it’s all about letting the paint do what it wants to do while I am captivated with placing colours together and embracing serendipity 😉 … https://t.co/F5URWhrxwH
