@PuellaUmeMagica btw i think most artists go for harsher shadow layers, i tend to keep mine soft because i'm too messy to pull it off otherwise...
@PuellaUmeMagica this is the meat of it - a colored shadow layer in multiply with brighter color modulation on the shadow edges to hint at light diffusion, and a colored light layer in screen to add some backlight (in this case green from the background/environment)
