It is believed that the legends of the Mabinogion are some of the earliest Welsh stories in existence. They were preserved in writing during the 12th and 13th centuries in manuscripts such as The White Book of Rhydderch and The Red Book of Hergest ⬇️

The Walnut Tree Railway Viaduct was built by the Barry Railway in 1901 to transport coal from the Rhymney Valley to the new Dock at Barry. The last train to the quarry ran over the viaduct in 1967. The viaduct was deconstructed in 1969.
